| Acanthoceras Honigmann and Urosolenia Round & Crawford emend. Rott, Kling & McGregor species were studied based on samples of 19 hydroelectric power plants reservoirs located in the State of Paraná, Southern Brazil. Autoecological informations of Urosolenia species complement the study. One Acanthoceras and four Urosolenia species were identified: A. zachariasii (Brun) Simonsen, U. amazonica Sala, Núãez-Avellaneda & Vouilloud, U. eriensis var. morsa (West & G.S.West) Bukhtiyarova, U. longiseta Zacharias and U. obesa Freire, Tremarin & Ludwig. | Apesar da natural existência de grande oscilação em todos os teores, em uma mesma jazida, das análises expostas na tabela anexa podemos concluir que: 1) as amostras com teor MgO até 3%, representam 52,58% do total das análises; de 3 até 5, 7,62%; de 5 até 10, 6,77%; e acima de 10, 33,05%. 2) com teor em insolúvel até 5%, 54,23%; de 5 até 10, 16,10%; e acima de 10, 27,96%. 3) das análises em que se fez a dosagem do MnO, 47,27% deram resultado negativo. 4) com exceção da maior parte dos calcáreos brancos, todos os outros contém carbono grafítico. 5) os calcáreos da zona de Itaiacoca, Município de Ponta Grossa, além da mistura com silicato de magnésio, estão acompanhados de Mg (OH)² em teores variáveis. 6) apesar de algumas amostras de grandes jazidas... |

| The dynamics of the bird community in a small forest fragment was evaluated along seven years in relation to changes in the surrounding landscape. The study area is an Araucaria forest fragment in Southern Brazil (state of Paraná). The sampling period covered the years 1988 through 1994 and the mark-release-recapture method was utilized. The landscape analysis was based on Landsat TM images, and changes in exotic tree plantations, native forest, open areas (agriculture, pasture, bare soil, and abandoned field), and "capoeira"(native vegetation < 2 m) were quantified. | This study represents a taxonomic survey of class Bacillariophyceae diatoms found in samples collected in the Iguaçu River (Iguaçu National Park, municipality of Foz do Iguaçu, in the state of Paraná, Brazil) between August 2007 and July 2008. Two sampling stations were utilized, the first located upstream of Iguaçu Falls (Cais Bananeiras Station) and second downstream of the falls (Cais Macuco Safari Station). The study resulted in the identification of 86 taxa, including 74 at the specific level and seven taxonomic varieties. | Genetic variability of a population of Aedes aegypti from Paraná, Brazil, using the mitochondrial ND4 gene. To analyze the genetic variability of populations of Aedes aegypti, 156 samples were collected from 10 municipalities in the state of Paraná, Brazil. A 311 base pairs (bp) region of the NADH dehydrogenase subunit 4 (ND4) mitochondrial gene was examined. An analysis of this fragment identified eight distinct haplotypes. The mean genetic diversity was high (h = 0.702; p = 0.01556).
